Personal Training for Teens in San Diego
Chris Keith Personal Training helps San Diego teens ages 13 and up get stronger, faster and more confident with 1-on-1 coaching in a private studio. Chris has over 30 years of personal training in San Diego, and every teen program starts with proper form, so young athletes build strength safely and stay in the game.
Is strength training safe for teenagers?
Yes, with good coaching. The American Academy of Pediatrics says children and teens can benefit from resistance training when they have proper supervision and technique. In addition, the CDC recommends that kids and teens ages 6 to 17 do muscle-strengthening activity at least 3 days a week. That’s why every session with Chris is 1-on-1, so he can coach every rep.
What can teens train for?
- Sports performance: strength, speed, power and agility for school and club athletes, plus injury-prevention work for knees, ankles and shoulders.
- Strength basics and form: learning to squat, hinge, push, pull and brace the right way before adding weight.
- Confidence and healthy weight: building fitness habits, energy and self-confidence, with simple nutrition guidance and no crash diets.
- Coming back from an injury: rebuilding strength after a sports injury, once a doctor or physical therapist has cleared them. See strength training after physical therapy.
Why 1-on-1 training for teens?
Crowded gyms and big group classes make it easy to pick up bad habits. By contrast, a private studio lets teens focus, ask questions and learn at their own pace, with no one watching. Plus, Chris plans each session around school, the sports season and recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age do you start training teens?
Chris trains teens ages 13 and up. Every program starts with a movement assessment and is matched to the teen’s age, experience, sport and goals, so a 13-year-old learning the basics and a varsity athlete get very different plans.
Is lifting weights safe for teenagers?
Yes, with proper supervision and technique. The American Academy of Pediatrics says children and teens can benefit from resistance training when it is well supervised. That’s why every session is 1-on-1, and weight is added only after form is solid.
Does a parent need to be involved?
For clients under 18, a parent or guardian signs the waiver. Parents are welcome to join the free consultation to talk through goals, schedules and any health history, but they don’t need to attend sessions.
Can personal training help my teen in their sport?
Yes. Chris builds sport-specific programs for strength, speed, power and agility, plus injury-prevention work for knees, ankles and shoulders. Sessions are planned around practice, games and the sports season.
How often should a teen train?
Most teens do well with 2 sessions a week, adjusted around their sports season and practice load. The CDC recommends that kids and teens ages 6 to 17 do muscle-strengthening activity at least 3 days a week, so sessions often pair with sport and play.
How much does it cost?
A single 1-hour, 1-on-1 session is $275. Packages lower the price, from $250 per session for 10 sessions down to $125 per session for 100 sessions. The current 30 Year Anniversary Special is 30 sessions for $3,900 ($130 per session). The first consultation is free. See all personal training rates.
Can my teen train with a friend or teammate?
Yes. Buddy training is available for an additional $55 per person per session, which works well for teammates with similar goals.
