Personal Training for Beginners in San Diego
Chris Keith Personal Training helps beginners in San Diego learn to exercise safely and confidently, with 1-on-1 coaching from day one. Chris has over 30 years of personal training in San Diego and trains clients in a private 6,000 square foot facility, with no crowds and no one watching. You don’t need to be in shape to start. That’s what we’re here for.
Why is starting the hardest part?
Walking into a gym for the first time can feel intimidating: confusing machines, conflicting advice online, and the fear of doing it wrong or getting hurt. With a coach beside you, you learn the right way from the first rep.
What will you learn as a beginner?
- The foundational movements: squat, hinge, push, pull, carry and brace, with good form.
- How to progress safely, adding weight and difficulty in small steps.
- Simple nutrition habits that support your energy and results.
- Mobility, balance and flexibility so you move better every day.
- Confidence to train on your own, whenever you are ready.
What do beginner clients say?

No. Every program starts at your current level. Many clients haven’t exercised in years, or ever.

After a free consultation about your goals and health history, your first session covers a movement assessment and the basic exercises. You’ll leave knowing exactly what the plan is.
Will I get hurt or be too sore?
Chris progresses gradually to keep soreness manageable and injury risk low. Some mild soreness in the first week or two is normal.
How many sessions a week should a beginner do?
Two to three sessions a week is ideal for building strength and habits while leaving time to recover.

Most beginners feel stronger and more energetic within 3 to 4 weeks. Visible changes usually follow in 6 to 8 weeks.
How much does it cost?
A single 1-hour, 1-on-1 session is $275. Packages lower the price, from $250 per session for 10 sessions down to $125 per session for 100 sessions. The current 30 Year Anniversary Special is 30 sessions for $3,900 ($130 per session). The first consultation is free. See all personal training rates.
