Strength Training After Physical Therapy in San Diego

Chris Keith Personal Training helps San Diego adults keep getting stronger after physical therapy ends. Chris has over 30 years of personal training in San Diego and builds 1-on-1 programs in a private 6,000 square foot facility on Riley Street. Each program picks up where your PT left off, so you rebuild strength safely and return to the activities you love.

Why “discharged” doesn’t mean “done”

Physical therapy gets you moving again and out of pain. Insurance usually ends it before you are fully strong. Many people then stop their home exercises, lose progress, or jump back into the gym too fast and get hurt again. Structured strength training closes that gap.

How it works

  • Free consultation. We talk through your injury, your surgery or PT history, and your goals.
  • Movement assessment. Chris checks how you squat, hinge, push, pull and balance, and where you still compensate.
  • A program built around you. Exercises, loads and progressions are chosen for your injury, not pulled from a template.
  • Gradual progressive overload. Weight and difficulty increase in small steps, so your joints and tissues adapt without flare-ups.
  • Coordination with your care team. Bring your PT’s notes or restrictions. Chris works within them.

Common injuries we train around

Knee (including ACL and meniscus repairs and knee replacements), shoulder and rotator cuff, lower back, hip (including hip replacements), ankle, and neck.

Real results

“I am fitter, stronger, and have more energy now than when I started working out with Chris. And, that was more than 10 years ago! Chris has helped me overcome a lifetime of sports injuries and be in the best shape I’ve been since I was a much younger man.” — Dennis M.

FAQ

When can I start personal training after physical therapy? Most people can start as soon as their physical therapist discharges them or clears them for independent exercise. If you are still in PT, check with your therapist first. Chris can also work alongside your remaining PT visits.

Is a personal trainer the same as a physical therapist? No. A physical therapist diagnoses and treats injuries. A personal trainer builds strength and fitness once you are cleared. Chris does not treat injuries. He trains around them and follows your care team’s restrictions.

Do you work with knee, shoulder and back injuries? Yes. Chris regularly trains clients after knee surgery and replacement, rotator cuff and shoulder injuries, and lower back pain. Each program is adjusted to what your body can safely handle that day.

How long until I feel stronger? Most clients notice better strength and confidence within 4 to 8 weeks of training 2 to 3 times a week. Rebuilding full strength after surgery often takes 6 to 12 months.

How much does it cost? One-hour 1-on-1 sessions are $350 for a single session. Packages lower the price: $250 per session for 10 sessions, down to $125 per session for 100 sessions. The first consultation is free.

Where are you located? The private training facility is at 5260 Riley Street, San Diego, CA 92110, near Morena and Bay Park, with street parking.

Can I train if I still have some pain? Often, yes. Mild, stable discomfort can usually be trained around. Sharp, new or worsening pain means stopping and checking with your doctor or PT.  Synergy PT
